Author’s note: This is an AU that was written in response to a challenge - F/K having sex in a confessional. I forget the challenge and the challenger... sorry. It was a long time ago. At any rate, the challenge was fulfilled (a short PWP) but the story never let me go. Using the original PWP for the basis, I took the ds_c6d_big_bang opportunity to try to write a lengthier, fast-paced, linear story with a semblance of plot. Ha ha ha. Readers with a historical bent will note that this AU is set (roughly) in the early 1990s for many reasons, some of which do not need exploring and some of which are (or will be) self evident.

Summary: Fraser got to know Vecchio and Kowalski in 1938 while attached to the 27th police precinct in Chicago as Canadian consulate liaison. He and Vecchio were friends first, and when Ray Kowalski arrived there was friction between the Rays, partly as Fraser and Kowalski were immediately attracted, even if they didn't act on it. Eventually, Vecchio and Kowalski settled into a tetchy camaraderie. Fraser enlisted in 1940 after Canada entered the war, then Kowalski and Vecchio joined up in 1942, with most of the 27th precinct. Fraser was an intelligence operative, rallying the resistance and gathering intel in Norway and then the Alps with Dief, his trusty war dog. Meanwhile, Kowalski’s unit fought its way up through Italy and Vecchio went undercover, tracking Mussolini's inner circle. Fraser mostly only had a radio for contact with the outside world, but he and Kowalski still wrote to each other and kept photographs, even if they couldn't send anything. It was against the rules, but imagining talking to each other through letters and snapshots helped them survive the long years apart. This is from Fraser's memoirs - what they wrote, and the pictures, real and imaginary, documenting their experiences of the war.

Sad notice of withdrawal from this year's dSC6D BB.

I <3 the dSC6D BB and I regret withdrawing from making a complementary claim this time around. I have been having a health problem for two months which is affecting -- amongst other things -- the use of my wrists and hands. This compromises my ability to physically create fanworks -- I might manage a short work over an extended period, but this is not the time for me to commit to something with a deadline and being made in tandem with another person.

I'm looking forward to seeing all these fanworks at Canadian Thanksgiving time and thinking that if health allows I might do some latter-day "inspired-by" fanworks.

Thanks Desiree! Works 6 (Amarok) and 8 (mific) are still currently available, although it's only been two days so far. Mific's is mostly art so would particularly suit complementary fic, if that was your thought, but we're accepting complements in the same medium this year if needed.
