2018 due South/C6D Big Bang sign-ups coming soon!

Calling all due South/Canadian Six Degrees writers, artists, vidders and podficcers - it's the tenth anniversary of the World's Slowest Big Bang, and sign-ups are coming soon!

In preparation, here's a link for the rules and the FAQs. There's a couple of changes from previous years, so be sure to check them out. Dates for the Skype chats are kinda tentative at this point, so if you really want a Sunday instead of a Saturday, shout out now!

2018 Schedule

Checkpoint for primary creators: June 3rd

Chat 3: June 30th 

Chat 4: July 28th (tentative)

Primary works due: August 20th

Complementary claims open: August 25th

Checkpoint for complementary creators: September 22nd

Complementary works due: October 1st 

Go-live date for all works: Canadian Thanksgiving, October 8th

Thanks! I'll crosspost notices for the actual sign-ups too, when they open. Not sure how many active fans dS fandom still has, but even a handful would make the challenge worthwhile, so I'm going to run it anyway.

What medium were you thinking of signing up to?

I was trying to think of an art or craft that hasn't been done for the BB before...and beadwork came to mind.

How many hours of work on beadwork pieces would it take for such a project to qualify as a BB complementary?

Ooh, um, "an amount representing an effort commensurate with a 2000-word fic". Which is to say, it's all a bit vague and I will totally take your word on it and cheer you on!

Heh, I guess I'll have to time the next 2000 words of fic that I write to give myself a minimum-reference.

ETA : And what kind of beta should I seek for a crafts fanwork?

Whichever sort of beta you think would be helpful, I suppose. Specific craft beta (equivalent of line editing), or someone to say the equivalent of "hmm, I reckon Fraser's uniform is a slightly brighter shade of bright"? :)

(2000 words can take me anything from a day to several months, so it's difficult to be prescriptive about it!)

dS quilt

I'm the quilter ferox is referring to. I am planning a dS quilt, but mostly for feroxargenta for all her love & support in multiple fandoms over the years. I don't know that I could do it on a BB deadline. Also, I'm just making the top, finishing takes forever and I have a backlog already. We'll get (pay) someone else to finish it.

Also, I'm making it for ferox using her ideas, so I don't know that it would work as either a response to a BB entry or as a prompt for one.

But anyway, I'm sure either ferox or I will post a pic at some point. If you are interested, you can see other fandom quilts I've made at my DW using the "quilt" tag. On my tumblr there's a Sherlock fandom quilt, but that's NSFW, FYI *g*

I'm not on social media much anymore, but I do get my DW messages. I think. Sometimes :-)

Oooh, another fanworks medium to be shared and saved on AO3! Yes, I think you should post pics of your fanworks quilts there! And if you do so, LMK!

(I'd go look at your NSFW Sherlock fandom quilt except that I find it hard to locate things on tumblr. If you were to PM me a link to it, I'd go have a look.)

ETA : When I clicked on your DW username it went to "recent entries" and doesn't access tags, and when I tried to do an "alltoseek profile search" no matches came up. *sigh*)

I checked, and the list of standard links (archive, tags, etc.) from a user's journal is available from clicking a username. I saw on your journal the links are along the top. On mine the links are along the left side. And they're a boring black instead of a shiny pinky-purple, so prolly don't stand out.

Why can't everything always be the same? *sigh* ;D

I totes agree with you about tumblr, which is one of the many reasons why I gave up on it years ago. Fortunately, the last thing I posted was the quilt, so if you go to alltoseek.tumblr.com it shows up first thing. I just tested wo even logging in, so no tumblr account required :-)

PS: About the tags link on DW, I mentioned for future ref, always nice to know how to navigate in general. HOWEVER, I do all my social mediaing from a desktop, so I don't know if things show up different on a mobile device? Probably, or at least harder to find scrolling around or looking at teeny-tiny print, which is one reason I don't use my phone for social mediaing.

Oh, turns out it was totally a mobile device problem, not a DW problem. All the standard links show up when I'm on laptop or PC, but not when I'm viewing via smartphone. Oh, vast 21st century world of multiple electronic access devices!

Yes you should post on AO3! Post all the lovely things!

The BB is more about the journey than the destination. No, stop laughing, it is! Most people who sign up don't finish, but there are no penalties for missing deadlines or dropping out, and everyone has fun sharing stuff and flailing and chatting on Skype and being cheered on meanwhile. And your ideas are amazing and deserve cheering :)

I know, I know! I'm glad you run a friendly BB. Uh, maybe will sign up? Could maybe post pics during progress check-ins (if you do that). But I don't Skype :-( Also, I can flail and chat or I can actually get stuff done. Chatting and flailing is more fun, but then I never get anything actually done.

Yes, there are check-ins, and yes, you could post pics. I don't have the bandwidth for normal skype but the text-only version works okay. It's just like mandc_watch, only with a chat-friendlier interface and no one shouting "OCEANS ARE BATTLEFIELDS" or "THIS SHIP IS ENGLAND!"

Chatting and flailing is more fun
