Welcome to the first checkpoint of this year's big bang! These aren't mandatory so if you want to skip it that's fine. And if you haven't started yet please don't panic, you still have plenty of time.

Here is how the checkpoint will work. We are keeping a list of everyone who has signed up and what they are doing. We would like to add to the list current Author Word Counts/Creator Progress (and yes, we totally get how subjective that second one can be), so that is what we need from you. Please indulge our need to make colorful spreadsheets :)

What's Strange Empire? (I am capable of googling it myself, of course, but consider this a conversational opener. :) )

It's a show about a to-be mining "town" - basically a proto-town and the women who live there. They all live through horrible things but have to kinda stick together to get through. There are amazing characters like:

*There's a captain who wants to open a mine but can't pay the miners,
*his wife (and ex-whore) who runs the brothel (Tattiawna Jones, Winnie from Flashpoint!) and does fake seances with her Chinese assistant and fights tooth and nail to keep what she's gained
*the undercover Metis wannabe-rancher who takes the two girls who were gonna be put to whoring and adopts them (along with two boys, one of which is massacred with the men of their party)
*Blackfoot Marshal who is trying to find out who massacred all the men (played by Tahmoe Penikett!)
*an autistic prodigy doctor woman and her much-older sorta-husband (slash-ex-guardian) and her (transman? secret woman? it's not clear yet - I'm not sure it's every supposed to be) love interest
*an ex-whore tarot card reader with a heart of gold
*a mother and daughter (who just had twins) with nothing

Aw man, this show. It's just everything difficult and the cards stacked against them and they have NOTHING and they keep getting more TAKEN but they keep fighting, I dunno how. It's so tangled and dark and beautifully done. Cancelled before it's time! Only 1 season of a dozen eps or so. I recommend it, but be warned for violence (physical, gore, death, sexual, and assault against children), it can be pretty horrible. But not entirely hopeless.

First, apologies (sorry sorry sorry) for not using template -- my home WiFi is out (AGAIN) and I'm doing minimal stuff on my tiny smartphone keyboard.

What I Like About the Fanwork so far: Crack. It's definitely crack. But the good stuff (I hope), so that's okay.
What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: So many ways this fic can go. So. Many. It's hard to pick a direction and stick with it. This, of course, leads to general inability to write, because - what am I writing!!! /0\
Anything Else: The one thing I am able to keep true to is... oh, right. I was unable to join chat so never told anyone I'm going with the alien in Chicago thing. Because, you just know one of them had to be an alien, right? So, yeah. I'm trying to keep focused on leading to the reveal. Which means I have the ending. And a bit of prologue. It's that whole beginning and middle thing I have to sort out.

Um...long story short is I'm still in and still working on this. In my head. *waves* Hi, all!
