Call for betas and first-readers/cheerleaders

If you want to participate in this year's big bang, but not create a Primary or Complementary piece, there are still options! Please consider volunteering as a beta or first-reader/cheerleader!

A beta gives constructive criticism, which can mean anything from looking at the structure and plot to pointing out grammatical errors and typos in a story, to listening to podfic for mispronunciations to questioning if people really bend that way in a drawing to being a soundboard for vidders, etc. A first-reader/cheerleader can provide feedback and squee to give the creator more energy to keep going, or even help brainstorm, if that's what the creator needs.

Please include the following in your comment:

- Will you beta or cheerlead or both?
- What type of fanwork can you beta/cheerlead?
- What fandoms/pairings/characters are you comfortable working with? To see what fandoms besides due South might be available, check out the Sign Ups post.
- Limitations: are there things you aren't comfortable seeing?
- If you are a beta, what are your strengths and weaknesses? For example: line-editing, plot, structure, characterization, grammar. Do you have any special knowledge that might be useful?

Beta, yes. Cheerleader, probably not my best thing.

I can beta podfic for sure, and probably fic, depending on timing and length.

I'm familiar with most of C6D.

As for pairings, I don't slash Ray Vecchio and I'm not entirely comfortable with Turnbull paired with anyone but Frannie, but other than that it's probably all good.

Can't handle incest, graphic non-con, torture as porn. Will beta BDSM but it's not my kink, so I can't comment knowledgeably on that aspect.

As for what kind of beta: Tell me what you need, and I'll work with you on it.

I can beta. Fic or podfic. I'm familiar with about half of the sources on the list. I'm good at line-editing or reader-response, but I will try to give you whatever kind of editing you ask for.

I can beta fic, podfic and art. Have been a beta for all three for DS in the past.

Other fandoms I can beta: Hard Core Logo, Wilby Wonderful, Slings & Arrows

Any rating and pairing is fine, but there are a few themes I'd rather avoid: Noncon, incest, mpreg, omegaverse, explicit het

Note for fic: I'm not a North American, and if you aren't either, it's probably better not to ask me for a fic beta!

Any useful specialist knowledge: Not really, sadly. I have done a lot of reading about the NWT and the Yukon, but not enough to call myself an expert, and I've never been there... For art, I know quite a bit about digital editing and painting.

Can beta fic or podfic in dS or most any C6D. The fact that I have an OTP does not make me uncomfortable to beta other pairings. No limitations on subject matter : I am virtually unsquickable and have no triggers.

All-round proofreader and copy editor. Special knowledge : born and raised in the place that Fraser first came on the trail of the killers of his father, so I'm great at Chicago details.
